A recent survey by a healthcare management firm reveals that 88% of companies in the UAE plan to boost their investment in employee wellbeing initiatives over the coming year. This surge in commitment is driven by the clear benefits organizations are witnessing, including enhanced employee productivity and engagement.
The research, conducted by Bupa Global, surveyed over 400 full-time employees across various industries. Findings indicate that 94% of UAE companies recognize a direct link between wellbeing programs and improved employee performance. Dean Pollard, General Manager of Bupa Global, Middle East and Asia, emphasized that prioritizing employee health not only benefits individuals but also serves as a strategic advantage for businesses. “Companies investing in holistic wellbeing initiatives see measurable returns lower absenteeism, improved engagement, and enhanced overall performance,” he explained.
The Impact of Wellbeing Programs on Employees.
Corporate wellbeing expert Aakanksha Tangri, founder of Re:Set, confirmed these findings align with her observations. She noted that such programs contribute significantly to better team dynamics, stress management, and overall employee preparedness. One of the companies she works with reported 100% of participating employees experienced reduced stress levels and improved sleep.
Senior leaders in the survey echoed these sentiments, with more than 50% reporting significant productivity improvements following the adoption of wellbeing initiatives. Additionally, 49% of employers observed higher employee engagement, while 36% saw a decline in absenteeism.
These insights demonstrate that wellbeing programs extend beyond individual health benefits they directly impact business success. Nearly one-third of organizations reported reduced employee turnover rates, underscoring the role of wellbeing initiatives in workforce retention and long-term organizational stability.
Workplace Wellbeing in Action.
Uma Bhattathiripad, founder of digital marketing agency Xite Live, actively integrates wellness programs into her company’s culture. She encourages employees to participate in activities such as team sports and the Dubai Fitness Challenge. This year, they are also engaging in the Halloween Run as a team-building exercise. “Since we spend a significant portion of our lives at work, the workplace environment plays a crucial role in our overall quality of life,” she noted. “Effectively managing workplace stress is essential to prevent it from becoming overwhelming.”
Aakanksha Tangri further highlighted that workplace wellbeing initiatives create a ripple effect. By equipping employees with tools to handle stress, organizations empower them to navigate challenges more effectively not just at work, but in their personal lives as well. One company she worked with reported 98% of employees experiencing noticeable improvements in daily life and emotional regulation.
Challenges in Implementing Wellbeing Programs.
Despite the evident advantages, companies do face challenges in executing wellbeing initiatives. Nearly 50% of senior decision-makers identified low employee participation as a significant obstacle, while 43% cited budget constraints as a limiting factor.
Although challenges remain, the growing emphasis on employee wellbeing in the UAE reflects a broader shift towards fostering healthier, more engaged workplaces leading to both personal and business growth.
